The hare and the tortoise.

Shakespeare.

The pig.

As the midday sun rose high over the farm Simon the pig settled into his eleventh mud wallow. Life was good for Simon. He had a rosy pink snout that twitched as he sniffed, and small eyes that were sharp and inquisitive. He had patches of thick, coarse hair which stuck out from his face in tufts. Nosy by nature, Simon always wanted to know what was going on around him. He was the best pig because he was well trained.

The farm was a long way from the city. It was not often that the farm was quiet. The water tanks stood to attention  like three rotund guards. The rolling hills caught the long shadow of the late afternoon sun. There were tidy packed bales of hay, that rested in a neat array. There was an old barn that was home, comforting cosy and always busy with its inhabitants. The farm was down a long muddy track far away from the main highway. For nearly one hundred years the farm had been nestled on the side of the hill next to the babbling creek.

worried concentration made the pig frown in earnest. The pigs hooves tried to tread the water, but he could hardly stay afloat. The pig jumped in the water to have a swim. turquoise water lapped at the pig's snout.panic was setting in as he appeared unable to close the gap to land. When the pig reached land he walked to the farm as fast as he can to have a shower.

The end.

The skater.

It was clear that the skater was oblivious to my presence. He shifts his weight allowing for the board to rotate in mid air. His body is silhouetted against the soft pink dust sky. It was like a heat haze covering the city in a steamy blanket, turning the hills to a pastel mauve. I could see that his face showed stern concentration, which caused the skater to frown.

My maths.

Old women

“How long have you been standing there?” I wondered as I caught the eye of the crumpled old lady. When I stared at the old lady she had cracked lips furling around gums where teeth once stood. She had a rich indigo velvet scarf, folded carefully to frame her face. She had keen eyes alight with mischievous youth. There were deep channels of time, etched into her wizened surface.

Simon's maths

“Marvellous Maths” - Octagons
Term 2, Week 1

WALT: solve addition problems where one number is close to 10 and the answer is not more than 100.

Noah has 27 rugby cards and Bobby has 9. How many do they have altogether?
(Show your working out here - I want to see how you can use the strategy we have been learning as a group!) 27 + 9=36
+ 1 _9=10
-1_27=26
26 + 10 = 36
Nyree has saved $36 in pocket money. Teija has saved $12. How much money do they have between them?  $38+ $10=48
12-2 10                                                                                            38+ 40
(Show your working out here!)
Use Educreations on the iPad to share how you worked this question out. Post your movie on your blog.

$36+$12=
take away 2 from the 12 and add it on to the 36

38+10=
3+1=4
40
8+0=8
8
For the following questions, show your working out underneath. I have done the first one for you.

47 + 9 =
47-1 + 9+1 = 46 + 10 = 56.

44 + 8 =
44-2  +8  10    42+10=52

17 + 12 =
12-2  +17   19+10=29

37 + 9 =
37-1  9+    36+10=46

55 + 8 =
55+ 2  8+10   53+10=63

My Basic Facts - “Doubles”
Write down all the numbers that add together to make 10.
10+0=10
0+10=10
9+1=10
1+9=10
5+5=10
4+6=10
3+7=10
2+8=10

Greater than or less than:
Use these signs > (greater than), < (less than), or = (equal) to make the maths sentence true. I have done the first one for you.
7   >   4
12  >    8
57  <    58
19   <   29
13 >    3
27  =    27

Simon's holiday Recount

In the  holidays I went to rainbow end with my mum brother and my aunty and my cousin. When we were in the car we were counting all the cars. When we got there I saw the new ride it was BIG and it looked scary.

The first ride we went on was the pirate ship it goes up and  down it was giving me a feeling in my stomach. When we went on the Rollercoaster we went over lops and it was scary. I went on a ride called gold rush you have to go in a cart only 4 people can go in one cart it is amazing because you see zombies and ghost inside a cave then you go outside and you go up a ramp it is scary because it feels like your cart will stop and go back down and smash through the wall.

After we sat down and talked about what ride we should go on next.We said bump a cars I went with my aunty and we were trying to get my brother and my cousin I got both of them it was fun. After we went home it was amazing.
